Guigal - Côtes du Rhône blanc - 2023

Côtes du Rhône

Domain story

Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, the historic birthplace of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, Domaine Guigal has become an emblem of Rhône Valley wines. For three generations, the Guigal family has carried on their passion and expertise, from Marcel to his son Philippe, now the estate’s winemaker.

Over the years, Domaine Guigal has expanded its legacy through notable acquisitions, including Château d’Ampuis, the Grippat and Vallouit estates, Domaine de Bonserine, and Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Each acquisition has strengthened Guigal’s presence across Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, and Crozes-Hermitage, extending to the southern Rhône Valley.

The estate is renowned for its exemplary craftsmanship, with its own cooperage and historic cellars where exceptional wines are matured, representing the excellence and diversity of Rhône terroirs.

Appellation: Côtes du Rhône

Côtes du Rhône stretches along the Rhône Valley in southeastern France, spanning from Vienne in the north to Avignon in the south. This region benefits from varied soils and a mix of continental and Mediterranean climates, ideal for growing a range of grape varieties.

The appellation produces predominantly red wines, using grapes like Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. These wines are known for their rich, fruity flavors, with notes of red and black berries, spices, and sometimes earthy undertones. Côtes du Rhône also offers whites and rosés, though in smaller quantities, typically featuring Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne for whites, bringing floral and stone fruit notes.

With its diverse terroir, Côtes du Rhône wines capture the unique essence of the Rhône Valley, offering a range of wines from fresh, accessible styles to more complex, age-worthy bottlings.
