Clos Henri - Estate Sauvignon Blanc - 2023
Domain story
Located in the Wairau Valley in the Marlborough wine region, Clos Henri is a 44-hectare estate that is 100% organic and biodynamic. It was founded by the Bourgeois family, who are also behind the renowned Domaine Henri Bourgeois in Sancerre (Chavignol). The Bourgeois family is globally recognized for their commitment to expressing terroir and their mastery of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, which they have continued to cultivate in New Zealand for the past 20 years with Clos Henri.
TERROIR & VITICULTURE
Displaying liveliness, concentration, and brilliance, the wines of Clos Henri are shaped by its young terroirs of glacial stones and windblown clays.
Born from a precise blend of the estate’s different terroirs, the Clos Henri "Estate" Sauvignon Blanc reflects a unique location and a style rooted in the French tradition. The vineyard is planted at high density to encourage competition between the vines and limit their vigor, allowing them to focus their energy on the fruit (rather than the canopy) and produce more concentrated grapes.
The absence of irrigation and the estate’s commitment to organic farming also help maintain the vine’s natural balance; by subjecting it to appropriate water stress, the roots are encouraged to penetrate deeper into the soil, promoting the purest expression of the terroir and revealing the minerality of the estate’s clay and stony soils.
