Domaine de Rocheville - Le Prince - 2020

Saumur Champigny

Domain story

Founded in 2004 with Philippe Porché’s acquisition of the first vines, Domaine de Rocheville quickly established itself in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation. With its first vintage in 2005, Rocheville impressed with high-quality Saumur Blanc and Saumur Champigny wines, later expanding to include Saumur Rosé and Crémants de Loire.

In 2011, the estate’s eco-responsible commitment was recognized with the Terra Vitis label, followed by the construction of a modern, environmentally friendly winery in 2013 on the Parnay hillside. In 2014, a boutique and a tasting room with panoramic views of the Loire were added, welcoming visitors to discover the estate’s wines in a stunning setting.

Since 2016, Rocheville has been proudly certified organic, cherishing the unique tuffeau terroir that imparts exceptional character to its Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc wines. Today, Domaine de Rocheville is celebrated for its refined wines and dedication to terroir, blending tradition and innovation in the pursuit of excellence.

Appellation: Saumur Champigny

Saumur Champigny is located in the Loire Valley, near the town of Saumur, and stretches across eight villages, including the commune of Champigny, which lends its name to the appellation.

The region benefits from a mild, temperate climate with sunny days and cool nights. Unique to Saumur Champigny is its tuffeau limestone soil, a soft, porous stone that retains heat, allowing for ideal grape ripening. This terroir provides the wines with a distinctive minerality and finesse, balancing fruit with freshness.

Saumur Champigny wines are crafted primarily from Cabernet Franc, producing elegant reds known for their bright acidity and refined aromas of red berries, cherries, and subtle floral notes. Some cuvées may also develop hints of spice, giving a delicate complexity to these wines.

Saumur Champigny wines are versatile, with lighter, fruit-forward styles for immediate enjoyment and more structured, age-worthy bottles that reveal deeper flavors over time. They perfectly capture the terroir of Saumur and offer a refined expression of Loire Valley reds.
